Hugh M. Wilkinson papers, 1953, 1954.

Two sets of papers related to General James Wilkinson. The first is an address delivered by Hugh Wilkinson on Nov. 11, 1953, at the unveiling of a historical marker at Camp Sabine, La., by the Louisiana State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It principally concerns Aaron Burr's alleged scheme to invite the western subjects of Spain to form an independent empire in the west with New Orleans as its capital and James Wilkinson's role in thwarting the plot. The second set of papers is related to the dedication of the Wilkinson family burying-ground in Calvert County, Md., as a historic site by the Maryland State Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Included is a black and white photograph of the burying ground and a biographical article on James Wilkinson written by Hugh Wilkinson and published in the Calvert Independent in Prince Frederick, Md., in 1954.
